Start from the FTA

For tax invoice rules under the VAT regime, begin with the Federal Tax Authority’s own materials: Tax Invoices on tax.gov.ae.

eInvoicing does not replace VAT law, it digitises how invoice data is exchanged and reported for in-scope transactions under the MoF programme (MoF eInvoicing).

Core fields finance teams usually prepare

Exact mandatory fields depend on document type and FTA rules, but UAE teams typically ensure:

  • Clear Tax Invoice labelling (often bilingual: Tax Invoice / فاتورة ضريبية)
  • Supplier and customer legal names
  • Tax Registration Numbers (TRN) where required
  • Invoice number and issue date
  • Description of goods/services, quantities, and consideration
  • VAT amount and applicable rate
  • Total payable

When eInvoicing applies, those commercial/tax fields must also map cleanly into PINT AE structured data for ASP validation.

eInvoicing + VAT returns

MoF notes that reporting invoice tax data to the FTA through ASPs can support automatic pre-population of certain VAT return fields over time (MoF programme). That is a major operational benefit of getting data quality right early.

Practical tip

Treat your invoice master data as compliance infrastructure: TRN formats, address fields, and VAT codes should be controlled, not typed ad hoc every time.
